Meet the Artificial Intelligence Bartender, Cecilia
A new robot, Cecilia, will relieve some of the pressure for the hospitality industry. The next time you go to a bar, you may be greeted by a different type of bartender — her name is Cecilia.ai, and according to her maker, she’s the first robot interactive bartender in the world. She’s also about 7 feet tall, tells bad jokes and can take any insult.
The rough overall shape and size of an arcade console game, Cecilia on a digital screen as a woman behind a bar, keeping busy in idle times through cleaning glasses and wipe down her virtual countertop. Customers interested in a drink can come up and say their order. Cecilia can respond to the order, such as saying that certain ingredients aren’t available or suggesting an alternative option.
Cocktails are also available on a touchscreen menu, and your drink is delivered through a slot in the machine — though as the technology is still so new, you may not get it the first time you ask. The design behind Cecilia is what makes it so unique: it can learn as it goes and create specialty drinks like Floridians enjoy (with its patented smart blender).
Cecilia is joining the workforce at an opportune time. She offers contactless interactions (obviously) and can help businesses solve big problems with labor shortages or sick staff.
Plus, she tells jokes. People like to take selfies with her. They leave her bar laughing. I mean, when’s the last time you got a wine pour from a robot that tells bad jokes? It’s just kind of fun.
You can expect to start seeing Cecilia and knock-offs at your next business event, food and wine festivals, concerts, stadiums, and maybe even bougie birthday parties. You can also bet money that drunk patrons will be belting out the Simon and Garfunkle song, Cecilia at every event.
